Message Overview
Daniel 2:17–23 meets us in a familiar place: between the problem and the solution. Daniel stands in the pause—between a death sentence at his doorstep and God’s deliverance—and what fills that pause is not panic, strategy, or self-reliance. It is a prayer meeting and a worship service. The pressing question underneath the crisis is the same one we face again and again: Is God in charge? Daniel settles it in his heart—“there is a God in Heaven, and He is in charge”—and everything that follows is a response to that faith.
This passage shows us what it looks like to live when God is sovereign: humble faith in an awesome God. Humble faith results in dependence, and dependence expresses itself in prayer—not as a backup plan, but as the plan, and not only privately, but corporately. Then, when God answers, Daniel’s faith erupts into worship as he beholds who God is: worthy in His name and character, sovereign over times, seasons, and kings, and merciful to save those who trust in Him. The pause becomes the classroom: pray and worship while you wait, because there is a God in Heaven—and He is in control.
